La Grange Park, IL | Schools

La Grange Park falls into elementary school districts 95 and 102.  District 95 contains the elementary school Brook Park, where on average, there are only 25 students in each class. Families and the community in general are very involved due to their interactions with the Brook Park Council, which organizes events and fundraisers and acts as a liaison between parents and the school.  Brook Park feeds into S.E. Gross middle school, which provides a great education and is very attentive to student needs. With an average class size of just 14 students, your child will never feel as though they are lacking attention. This district feeds into Riverside-Brookfield High School, which only enrolls about 1,500 students. The recommended size for high schools to ensure a well-rounded educational experience is around 900 students. Riverside-Brookfield High School is one of the smallest high schools in the area and is very close to the ideal size. Riverside-Brookfield High School has great sports teams, intramural sports, various arts, and has a wide selection of extra-curricular clubs, all while maintaining high ratings in college preparation.

In District 102, the elementary schools are Forest Road and Barnsdale Road, both of which are dedicated to showing each of their students the attention they need to succeed. Barnsdale Road has an average class size of only 23 students, and Forest Road has 24.  Park Junior High is the middle school that students from both Forest Road and Barnsdale Road would attend. Park Junior High School keeps class sizes small, even though there are about 700 students. They have tons of extra-curricular activities to choose from: sports, art clubs, Spanish and French club, intramural sports, and a great music program. They work for a few months a year to put on one musical production. In the past, they have worked on Oliver!, Annie Get Your Gun, and many more! After two years at Park Junior High, students will then attend Lyons Township High School, a top-rated school in the area and known for its long list of extra-curriculars and class choices and its silver medal awarded by U.S. News and World Report.

Students from La Grange Park can attend the community College of DuPage at any of its campus locations to work for an associate’s degree or to rack up credits before college.  College of DuPage is a consistently well ranked and well regarded post-graduate option, and some of its most notable perks (besides housing over 60 student clubs and activities and 124 programs of study) is its 3+1 programs, where students can take 3 years of classes at C.O.D. and the last year of classes with a partner 4-year college on C.O.D.’s campus, earning them a Bachelor’s Degree of Art or Science.  The College ranked highly on CNN Money’s community college success ranking, which compiles data about the number of students that graduate within three years or transfer to a four-year school (49%).  For more information, see http://money.cnn.com/pf/college/community-colleges/ and http://www.cod.edu/index.aspx
